Taylor got his first paycheque today. I was a little disappointed till he pointed out that the number on it was just ONE Week worth of pay.
It made me scratch my head for a while figuring out how he can make more in one week than I do, when I technically make $8 more an hour than he does. (We're discounting for right now that he's paid hourly so he can get overtime, and I'm salaried and chose to be paid at the lower rate so I can get paid throughout the year.) Then, as I thought more, I remembered how much comes out of my check in a few different ways:
1. The SS/Taxes/Etc that I pay at the highest rates possible so I can get the best returns possible.
2. Insurance! Enough said about that!
3. Retirement. About 10% (if not more) goes straight into a retirement fund.
4. Flex Medical which I'm afraid we lost for this year because I didn't get a new card. (I'm not telling Taylor about that... we could've used it with his toe.)
After all of that I make OOP (out of pocket) $100 less than him.
It's probably a good thing. I know it bothered Taylor that I was the one bringing in the money.
And heck, if he's getting a nice pretty penny every two weeks we might just be able to afford a house come summer if we keep living frugally.
>> :) I'm pretty happy about that.
