Engagement Story

So, today I was able to announce my engagement to all my friends and the diffrence between my Mormon friends and associates and my Non-Mormon friends and associates is CLEAR. My Mormon friends hear that we're going to be engaged for six months and ask, "Are you sure you want to wait that long?" and then I have to explain about Houston and my mother's sanity when it comes to the dress. My non-Mormon friends express concern that we're doing this way too fast. It makes me laugh more than a little bit.

I've told this story a million times, and it seems like I'll never forget it, but I am going to write down my engagement story just in case. This seemed like a good place.

So Taylor has been telling me that the ring isn't ready. In fact, when he first bought it (I knew he had) he told me two weeks. The two weeks was coming up but I figured it really was not going to happen. Anyway, he's been pushing really hard to get last Saturday (December 5th) off from work so that we could have a weekend that we could actually go OUT on.

Well, he got it off and we headed up to Salt Lake. He had reservations at a restaurant called Cucina Toscana. We got there a bit before it opened so we just chilled there for a bit before being called in and seated. The waiter was very nice and really did everything he could to help us out. The menu was in Italian and really threw me off. (Also, if you really want me to make my own choice NEVER let me see how much something costs. I have a hard time spending money I don't see as necessary.) In the end we ordered a large Ceaser salad to share and then a chicken-mushroom-something green dish served on rice. I was feeling very out of place an awkward and just ordered the same thing as him, even though chicken and mushrooms are both on my dislike list. Chicken is alright sometimes! After ordering I was able to calm down a little bit and enjoy myself. He mentioned, once again, that the ring was still getting made and I guess that's really when I decided he was not going to propose that night.

We ate, left a nice tip and left the restaurant. He left his coat with me when he went to the restroom then we headed over to Temple Square. Looked at the nativity scene (pretty! They had this little girl that looked SO real except for the fact that she had snow on her head and wasn't shaking it off.) and then decided to go up onto the roof of the conference center. Unfortunately that was closed because of ice and snow. We did get to see all the decorations inside, but then we went back outside and looked at the reflecting pool. So pretty. All the floating lights and the temple reflected back out of it. Whoever designed that was a GENIUS.

Well, after a bit Taylor said he wanted to look at something off to one side so I followed him. We ended up at a fountain by the church office buildings. He said "I love you" and I answered "I love you too." and he said, "That's good, because that makes this easier." He pulls out the ring there and I swear, my heart stopped. I did not expect that at all. He knelt and said, "Will you marry me?" and of course, I said yes. Mostly, the yes was from my heart, but he was kneeling in snow! It's cold out there! He got up, put the ring on my finger, we kissed and then started calling people. My parents, His sister... you know, all that stuff.

The rest of it is basically unimportant. I didn't have my phone so I couldn't call Jessica/Kyla/Tori until I came home, which we did after phone calls on-the-spot (though we moved into a building, it was too cold!) He showed me the name of the CD he made "Engagement Mix" and basically I cried for a bit. Because that is what I do. It was too cold before!</cut-text>

So yeah. I'm the happiest person in the world right now (Even though it is snowing right now). Yesterday I got to tell everyone at church, and today I got to tell everyone in my Cohort. My mother and father called my respective extended family. (Which was nice, it would've been exhausting to call all of them myself!).
