Alright. So I didn't quite hit my goal of only $50, but that's because I stocked up on meat for the next two + months.
I had two transactions at Frys (our local Kroger affiliate). The first transaction rung up as $80 before coupons and discounts. AFTER the discounts it was $18.25. Pretty good. The second transaction rang up to $72 before coupons and discounts. After it was 20.84. A little more than I thought it would be, but I always forget taxes are more than I anticipate.
At Albertsons I ended up picking up 12lbs of chicken and 6lbs of hamburger, 3 half gallons of milk (because it was 45cents cheaper per gallon than buying a gallon), and a 12 count of eggs for $33. HOWEVER, by buying a) in bulk and b) on sale, I saved $20 off the regular price. A win after all.
All in all I ended up spending $73. $23 over budget, but as I said, I've got meat for 2+ months. That means I'll have more room in the rest of my weeks budget for a while.
Second All in all. I saved $134. I spent 73. If my math is right it's a 67% savings.
I'll take it!
Oh yes, I am one of those people who can look at an ad and decide what I want to eat that week. If nothing good is on then I try to feed us from what I have on hand. I'm slowly building up my stockpile so I can feed my family for a month or more just on what I've got in house so I only have to shop for fresh produce and milk.
