One of the members on my team is retiring, Pat. He has been a teacher forever, and has been at Simis for eight years. He has the largest heart that I have ever seen. He is one of those good teachers who truly believes that if the kids aren't performing that it means the teacher needs to change how they are doing things. He LOVES the kids that come through his classroom and would do everything for him.
I am going to miss him more than I can ever say. He's leaving me a lot of resources that I am really grateful for, and I'm moving into his classroom.
However, there are other people who have left who I am NOT going to miss. One such person retired last year and even though the person that replaced her is not my favorite, at least she isn't rude. Because Pat is retiring she came over to say good bye, then was at the retirement party today. And each of those times? She's asked when I'm going to have kids.
Two years ago, I probably wouldn't care because I didn't want kids right then. Now though? I really do want kids and it hurts when people make offhand comments. At least everyone else on my team has the tact to not ask that when I'm around, and my ward has a group of women who cannot have children so they're very polite.
*sigh*
